About Us

ST THOMAS COOKS was cooked up by world traveler, Ben Kraft who enjoys experiencing a new destination by touring its local cuisine — tying on an apron and rolling up his sleeves at a local cooking class.

In 2023, Ben made his dream of sharing the cuisine of the Virgin Islands with fellow travelers come true by offering cooking classes with notable professional island chefs. The ST THOMAS COOKS kitchen theater is located in historic downtown Charlotte Amalie in the Grand Hotel Building. Originally built in 1839 as a lavish hotel, the Grand Hotel is now home to a variety of shops and businesses.

The 855 square foot teaching kitchen features an ever changing series of artisanal foods and regional specialties. A maximum of 12 persons will each prepare an entree after the island chef presents herbs, spices and vegetables from island gardens as she prepares accompanying side dishes. Guest cooks will create and enjoy their entrées with shared side dishes and a glass of wine at the community table. The event is approximately 3 hours long.

Your chef will guide you through the secrets of island cooking. Various celebrated instructors, each highly trained and referred, will rotate based on the island specialties being created in each session.

“Visitors travel to St. Thomas for the beautiful natural environment and to explore our island culture. I invite you to immerse yourself in our cuisine by learning to cook our local dishes. You’ll take home lasting memories of aromatic spices, savory meats, sizzling vegetables and fresh fish smothered in fragrant savory sauces. As in most family kitchens around the world, you’ll find our atmosphere friendly, warm and welcoming.”
